In 1893, James Reid had a late night encounter with a freight train that left him with a severed foot. Reid survived his injury, and not wanting to just dispose of his foot, he gave it a proper burial in the Lutheran Cemetery, complete with a ceremony and a headstone. The inscription reads "Foot of James A. Reid - Severed by a Freight Train on Nov. 25, 1893." Reid lived for another seven years, dying at the age of 95.

- Old Lutheran Cemetery is at the corner of Cemetery and North Lee Street. Grave is located in the SE corner along the wall next to a tree. The rest of James Reid is buried at Trading Ford Baptist Church at 3600 Long Ferry Road.
