Spoke with a Brunswick citizen. Parents have passed on. Children are trying to sell farm. Still got a pic of the pecan.
[DisneyFrankness, 09/06/2011]World's Largest Pecan
We visited the World's Largest Pecan in June of 2010. While the pecan itself was in good shape, the area around it was not. We didn't find any gift shops or souvenirs of any kind. In fact, the buildings were in severe disrepair and the area overgrown with grass. We didn't even get out of the car. We just slowed down long enough to roll down the window and take a few pictures.
[Craig & Katelyn Wingerson, 08/15/2011]The World's Largest Pecan is still present, but the shops around it are no longer in operation. The entire grounds are overgrown with weeds - as if the operation hasn't been open for some time.
[Mark Finn, 06/08/2010]I am what in Charton County we call a "shirttail" relative of the James family (George was my mother's sister's husband's first cousin ...). We visited the old home country on Memorial Day - a regular tradition - and we always try to stop in for the chocolate covered pecans (try them, they're great).
The nut and it's hut are no longer is disrepair - George's son has taken over and is fixing up things quite nicely, and preparing the World's Largest Concrete Pecan for a long and happy future. One of the buildings is being painted now, and more work is planned.
[Mark Reddig, 07/21/2005]George James has since passed away a year or so ago. The pecan still stands but is in disrepair.
