George Braund and his wife Cookie were fixtures in the town of Mauston for over 50 years. He was the owner of the Busy Bee Cafe, a bus driver, a WWII veteran, and a local sports booster, with his catchphrase "You Betcha!"
After his death at 92 in 2013 the town got together to create a memorial for him. Unveiling it in 2015, Mauston Mayor Brian McGuire spoke of his first encounter with Braund at the Busy Bee and his shock that his dinner check was only $2 when he had spent much more. The memorial is covered with dozens of memories like McGuire's (and more than a few advertisements for local businesses).
Braund looks like he's holding a flask, but I think it's a water bottle.
