Stonefridge - Gone!

Three friends and I (we are The Twisted Texans and we go on an annual Road Trip) went to check out this Stonehenge made from dead refrigerators on the outskirts of Santa Fe, NM on June 16, 2007. We drove around for half an hour looking for it, to no avail. Finally a woman out walking her dog was kind enough to inform us that it was dismantled 6 weeks ago after a big storm knocked down a lot of the taller stacks of refrigerators. You can only imagine our sadness. Such a loss...

StoneFridge or FridgeHenge

FridgeHenge is in a sad state (as seen on May 30, 2007). There were two arches up, but all of the other refrigerators are on their sides. What philistine could have perpetrated this outrage?

Fridgehenge (Stonefridge)

Fridgehenge was definitely one of the highlights of a road trip my dad and I took from Houston to Los Angeles at the beginning of this summer. It is true to the descriptions and directions posted and not to be missed! Unfortunately, we found that many of the uprights and lintels had fallen and the site does not appear to be maintained regularly. Nevertheless, I think it lended a bit of authenticity of the actual Stonehenge and one certainly still gets the proper feel for it. The site is in a field mostly fenced off field; you can just park on the side of the road and walk over to it.

Stonefridge - Vandalized

We checked out the site but found it had been vandalized - only the center two towers were still standing...the rest had been pushed over and seriously dented. Until it's been repaired, it is not worth the journey.

StoneFridge: A FridgeHenge

On the North West side of Santa Fe, New Mexico is the single greatest roadside attraction in the world! My two friends and I recently road tripped from Columbus, Ohio to Phoenix, Arizona. We passed "Big Cross" (Illinois and Texas chapters... yes there's two, pissed me off too), Tall Chief, former world's largest McDonalds, Meteor Crater (which costs $15 a person so we didn't actually get to see in it), Petrified Forest (also costs way too much money), ... just to name a few. None compare.

Overlooking beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico stands Fridgehenge. It is a (somewhat) recreation of Stonehenge made completely of old refrigerators. When we arrived the sun was setting over Santa Fe; a gorgeous sight which greatly amplified the majesty and mystery of the Henge. About a foot of snow also added a touch of charm to the view. From the Henge, which rests on top of a hill, there is a magnificent view of Santa Fe as well.
