Venus Flytrap Nature Trail
Charles Darwin called Venus Flytraps "one of the most wonderful plants in the world." This corner of North Carolina is the only place to see them in the wild, because Venus Flytraps grow naturally only in a radius of about 75 miles of Wilmington. A half-mile long wheelchair-accessible trail loops through pocosin wetlands, longleaf pine, and wiregrass savanna. In the right season (May-June), Venus Flytraps can be found along the trail along with carnivorous Sweet Pitcher Plants. From the parking lot choose left or right on the loop, make sure you take your time on the lifted walkway to get a birds-eye view, and please stay on the trail to avoid damaging these small and fragile plants.
