- North central Oklahoma.From I-40 in OKC head north on Hwy 81 through Enid, OK to Hyw. 64. Go west to Jet. Entrance to crystal digging is several miles from Jet and the main area of the park, on the west side of the Salt Plains.

These salt crystals are unique and not found everywhere in the US. Worth the trip as long as you're well prepared. I would suggest bringing: water to rinse off with, change of clothes, sun-block, hat, beach umbrella, bug spray, egg cartons for the crystals, shovel, and plastic cups to wash crystals loose.

The crystal digging area is open again after being closed for a time. Bring a bucket of water and a shovel and get ready to face harsh sun and strong winds as you dig.
We were there digging for a couple of hours and didn't encounter another person the entire time. The kids went nuts with visiting this unique landscape and discovering buried treasure. A truly adventurous experience.

[Phyllis Hammer, 06/25/2003]Fun for the kids. Dig for crystals in the salt plains. Unique hourglass shapes are found in the crystals. Nearby is Great Salt Plains Lake with cabins, fishing, etc. There is also a wildlife preservation area and birders frequent this area.
