Scranton, Pennsylvania: Site of First Traffic Circle in Pennsylvania
A stack of coal boulders stands in the median of a busy highway that was once the first traffic circle in Pennsylvania. The coal boulder monument was dedicated by the American Automobile Association in 1941. The traffic circle is long gone, but the monument remains.

- Northwest edge of the city. In the median of US-11/N. Scranton Expy just south of I-81 exit 191B. Merge onto US-11/N. Scranton Expy. Drive a half-mile, following signs for US-11 S., then bear straight onto exit as US-11 bends left. Cross under US-11 and bear left onto Saltry Place. Drive two blocks. Turn left onto W. Market St. Drive one block. Bear left onto Clover St. Extension. Drive to the dead-end and park. Then very carefully run across US-11 to the Coal Monument, which is in its median.
