Kennebunk, Maine: Wedding Cake House

An over-exuberant version of gingerbread Victorian architecture. It isn't topped by a giant bride and groom, but, then, our expectations may not be normal.

Wedding Cake House

The house exterior is sadly in bad shape, paint peeling and white trim stained, bushes not trimmed, and a vine starting to grow across the front door. There is a place to pull off across the road to stop for a photo. The fence and garage are also very ornate. There were two vehicles in the side yard, so not sure if the house was empty or not. There are many beautiful old homes along the way toward it and out of Kennebunk, though none quite as ornate.

No place, really, to park. Best as a drive by.

You really need to see the artwork of this amazing house. It is beautiful. Would love to go inside and see what that it looks like.

Wedding Cake House

19th century ornately decorated Federal home. Made to look like a wedding cake. It is said that a captain built it for his bride as he was shipped out to sea and could not enjoy the real thing.

It isn't topped by a giant bride and groom, so it doesn't look much like a wedding cake to us. Maybe the captain should have instead built a birthday cake house....
