The USACE Lock and Dam 17 near Muskogee has a cool visitors center and it's just off the turnpike. It's a two-story building with great views of barges locking through, a lot of interpretive displays on the MKARNS River System and history of navigation, restrooms, and a picnic area for a roadside break. It's free, open every day, and sometimes the Lock tenders will come over and say hi if they're not locking a boat through. It's a very cool experience; me and my kids have a good time going there. Please be considerate, as this is an acting Lock and Dam.
