According to a black granite monument, the "1st major league baseball game" was played on this spot on May 4, 1871. Six months later, the baseball stadium burned down.

A monument marks the site of the first professional baseball game. It is located in a small city park.

According to the monument, the game was played on May 4, 1871, at the brand-new Kekionga Ball Grounds. Six months later, "all structures were destroyed by fire and never rebuilt."
