According to a black granite monument, the "1st major league baseball game" was played on this spot on May 4, 1871. Six months later, the baseball stadium burned down.

According to the monument, the game was played on May 4, 1871, at the brand-new Kekionga Ball Grounds. Six months later, "all structures were destroyed by fire and never rebuilt."
