The museum's curator Marty Philips passed away in April, 2017 but the museum is still in operation. Its layout features a variety of scenes and even includes the ship Edmund Fitzgerald taking on a load of iron ore. Maybe its last load before it sunk in Lake Superior? If there is a train excursion running to Lockport I would suggest getting a ticket for the ride. This would allow the passenger to cross Lockport's famous "Upside Down Bridge." It is a great place to visit with lots to offer for a small town museum.
[Thom, 11/03/2017]Largest wooden freight station ever built for New York Central R.R. Originator, curator Marty Phelps lives in an apartment built into the rafters and claims to live in the world's largest ranch house with the largest model train layout in his basement (actually the first floor) in NYS. A retired firefighter, Marty has on exhibit in the museum his collection of over 300 fire helmets. The HO Scale train layout is indeed the largest in New York State...over 14 feet wide by aprox. 200 feet long.
Call before going to ensure Marty will be there. He will dress in a full New York Central conductor's uniform and give you a guided tour.
