I stopped by Greenlawn Cemetery to see the recently erected memorial of grumpy dog Muggs Thurber -- when I stumbled upon the grave of the young George Blount. George died in 1873, at the age of five, after hitting his head on an iron stove. Mourners initially dressed his grave monument in seasonal clothing, and a plaque in front of the grave asks that you drop off clothing in the "Little Georgie" box in the cemetery office. Is anyone still doing this nearly 150 years after his death? Georgie's grave is by far the most visited in Greenlawn.
