Whether or not it's truly haunted, the wedding dress at the Baker mansion is no longer on display. The guide informed me that the satin was old and rotting. It's been placed under lock and key in a controlled environment. The nice lady from the historical society intimated that it might be available for viewing after extensive restoration, but didn't really give much of a timetable.
Of course, there's always the possibility that the dress finally strangled someone and they're trying to cover it up.
[Matt Boyle, 07/24/2009]The Haunted Wedding Dress at Baker Mansion is said to be the wedding dress of a the daughter of a prominent local man. Mr. Bell founded and gave his name to the nearby town of Bellwood. His daughter was said to be married in this dress, now on display as part of the Blair County Historical Society's museum in the Baker Mansion.
Over the years, the wedding dress has gained a reputation as being haunted. Numerous visitors claim to have seen the wedding dress move within its glass case, and other ghost stories have been told about the building.
Every year, ghost stories and haunted houses are held there around Halloween.
