Small community museum works to keep awareness of the Sultana sinking alive and in the public consciousness. The Sultana, overloaded by a factor of seven, exploded in the Mississippi River on April 27, 1865. Around 1,800 people died in the event -- the Sultana Disaster Museum maintains a list of all the passengers and if they survived or perished.
