That's the claim made on the historical marker. The spot is also marked with a short section of railroad track. Over $2 million was stolen in the 1924 robbery, and some of the loot is still missing.

From IL-21/Milwaukee Ave. in Libertyville turn east at the stoplight onto IL-176/E. Park Ave. Drive east about three miles. Just before you get to the train tracks look left; you'll see the historical marker next to the sign for Stars Fence.

According to the historical marker, on June 12, 1924, "near here," bandits stole over $2 million in securities and cash from the mail car of a train. "Some of the loot was never recovered."
