Reading, Pennsylvania: McKinley Statue: Death Mask Accurate

When Edward Pausch unveiled his statue of William McKinley in 1905 he knew it was a good likeness, since he'd modeled the face on a death mask he'd made of the assassinated President in 1901.

McKinley Death Mask Monument

Erected four years after his assassination, this 22-foot-high monument to William McKinley was created by sculptor Edward Pausch, who based its bronze statue's likeness on a death mask that he made of McKinley in 1901. One of the embellishments on the memorial's base is a bas-relief that depicts two children singing a hymn in memory of the martyred President.

The monument was dedicated on June 7, 1905. Supposedly much of its $8,000 cost was paid for with pennies donated by local schoolchildren.
