Aurora, Oregon: Grove of the States

A loop path at a highway rest area among trees from every state. A good idea when it was started in 1953, but no tree lives forever, and the Grove is now missing several states.

Grove of the States

A highway rest stop includes about 50 different trees representing the 50 states, each with a plaque, planted along short path. Many are the official State Tree, but some have stand-ins for species that can't live in this climate. Some are missing, presumed dead.

[Michael Minden, 10/20/2022]

The grove was planted in 1953. Western trees have flourished, but others are just hanging on. When last we checked, there were none for Arkansas, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, all having apparently fallen down.
