Fire coral is growing back on the statue; be careful when near.
[Daryl Palmer, 10/21/2021]Installed in 1965, this is the most photographed underwater attraction in the world. You can find Christ of the Abyss in Pennekamp Park, the only underwater park in the world, 20 feet below the surface of the ocean off of Key Largo. The twenty two foot tall, 4,000 pound bronze statue of Christ with upstretched arms was designed and cast by Italian sculptor Guido Galletti and was donated by an Italian dive equipment manufacturer to the Underwater Society of America in 1961. It can easily be seen by any snorkeler.
