I recently took a picture of the Big Indian at Harry's on the Hill auto-dealers in Asheville, NC and posted it on the Internet. Someone pointed out that my angle made the Indian appear as though he had something exposed. It turns out that this angle of taking his picture is known locally and the owner of the Indian actually tells people to take pictures from that angle.

The notorious Indian Brave "At Harry's on a Hill in West Asheville on highway 19/23, Patton Avenue" is exactly as described. A little loosely bolted and wavering slightly as the wind blows, the muffler man stands prominent on a large concrete stand and is easy to see from the main road.

The statue is on a hill in West Asheville on highway 19/23, also known as Patton Avenue. The statue is identical to the Indian on the "origin" pages on your web site.
[Kevin Donalson, 08/18/2002]At Harry's on the Hill Cadillac dealer is a huge indian waving "how". It has been there for, many years. He has a single feather in his headband. I live in Asheville and see it everyday. The feather was stolen twenty years ago and was recently found in a man's closet when he died. The feather has since been returned.
[Jeff Griffin, 06/29/2001]Our family was on vacation last spring break in The Smokies just outside of Asheville, NC. We stayed in Maggie Valley, near the Cherokee Indian Reservation. As we were driving one day past a store I noticed a 20- or 25-ft. high Indian in front of the store. It was huge! There was a garage not too far from the store so I thought it was a muffler man. This was a spectacular sight! It was painted nicely and had a giant ceremonial hat, and a very serious facial expression.
