Salt Lake City, Utah: Sugar House Monument

50-foot-high granite obelisk and bronze statues mark the spot where Brigham Young commanded his followers to make sugar from beets. It was a colossal failure, but you'd never know it from the monument.

Directions:
Southeast of downtown. I-80 exit 126. Turn north onto 1300 E. Drive three-quarters of a mile. Turn left at the stoplight onto 2100 S. Drive three-quarters of a mile. The monument will be on the left, just past the intersection with 1100 E.
