Shell-shaped Gas Station
The Shell-shaped Gas Station is lit up at night. Inside you can look in and see some books and things. Be careful if it has rained recently; the gas hoses will fill up with water.
If you travel along Sprague, westward, there are some houses with traditional yard art. You can observe them from the street if you pull over.
[VCOM, 03/17/2008]Old Shell Gas Station
An old Shell Gas station in the shape of a shell! The building looks like the Shell logo. This one is nicely kept up, but lacks the original "Shell" lettering.
[Les Parker, 08/11/2001]Clamshell Gas Station
Near the intersection of Peachtree and Sprague in the city limits is the sole remaining member of a family of originally eight Shell gas stations that were built to look like the Shell logo. It is literally a big yellow concrete clamshell shaped building that was used as a gas station begining in the 30's. The state historic preservation commission is in the process of restoring it as I write . It should be ready for the public to view by the end of next month.
