Asaroton Trash Sculpture
Bronze trash commemorates the farmers' market at Blackstone and Hanover Streets. Created by artist Mags Harries, "Asaroton" was initially installed as part of Boston's American Bicentennial celebration in 1976. The piece derives from ancient Roman floor mosaics that create the illusion of debris from a banquet littering the floor.

Harries embedded bronze banana peels and other trash in the pavement as an artistic statement on the produce market that often litters the artwork with real garbage. Renovated and reinstalled in 2006, then refurbished in 2021 with new bronze garbage added.
