The Lumberjack Tavern was the site of a 1952 murder in the small, Upper Peninsula town of Big Bay, Michigan, which inspired the award-winning 1959 Jimmy Stewart film, "Anatomy of a Murder." The screenplay was based on the 1958 novel by Michigan Supreme Court Justice John D. Voelker, who was the defense attorney in Big Bay.
The movie was even filmed on location. The Lumberjack Tavern has been murder-free ever since.
