Important Civil War Bullet Holes

Couldn't see any sign of bullet holes. The building looks recently painted gray.

[Deborah, 05/15/2020]

At one time the bullet holes were daubed in white paint to make them more visible, and the words "Struck by Gunfire June 29, 1863" were painted on the wall. But those embellishments had faded in recent years, and whoever repainted the house simply painted them over.

Struck by gunfire.

Important Civil War Bullet Holes

The original tip indicates there is a sign on the building that points out the bullet holes. There is, but not a traditional hanging sign! It is simply stenciled white paint letters that have faded significantly over time. When standing at the historical marker looking across the intersection, you are probably looking right at them without seeing them. Once you find them though, they and the lettering are obvious! The house is the historical Trumbo/Chrest House and is marked with a historical plate on the front. The bullet holes are located on the SE facing wall.

Corbitt's Charge historical marker.

Important Civil War Bullet Holes

There are two bullet holes on the side of a building that are from the civil war. They are both historically significant because they are from Corbitt's Charge, which was a key turning point in the Civil War. There is a historic marker about Corbitt's Charge and the bullet holes are marked with a sign on the wall. Good spot for the history buffs....the historical society is not far away along with a cemetery filled with Civil War vets.
