Wamego, Kansas: Oz Museum

Oz Museum
Cool little stop and not far off the road to check out.
[Ivy&Nate, 08/02/2012]The Oz Museum was open on a Monday. Very interesting. Well worth a 10 mile detour off I-70, and easy to find.
[Damian Orsini, 09/15/2010]A new museum in Wamego cashes in on the everlasting association of Kansas with the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz. The Oz Museum, funded in part by a state tourism bureau grant, displays a large collection of Wizard of Oz memorabilia. And Kansas has renamed a highway that leads to Wamego as "The Road to Oz."
The Oz Museum joins other similarly focused attractions in Liberal and Sedan, KS , Kansas City, Aberdeen, SD, Grand Rapids, MI, and Chittenango, NY (Hometown of Oz author L. Frank Baum), and the closed Land of Oz, Beech Mountain, NC. And let's not forget Desoto, Kansas had a plan underway in 1999 to refurbish the old Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant into an Oz theme park.
Wamego is also where you'll find the Old Dutch Windmill.
