Gothenburg is the hometown of former Dallas Cowboy great Jay Novacek. There is a billboard honoring the tight end located right across from the Sod House Museum.

Check out the Sod House Museum and Pony Express Museum in Gothenburg, Nebraska just off of I-80. The Sod House Museum is an authentic re-creation of the sod houses built by early settlers in the region. The experience culminates in awe-inspiring barbed-wire art including a life-size buffalo and a horse with native American rider. The Sod House Museum also sports one of the world's largest plows.
Further into town is one of the stops on the old pony express route. The original stone building is now a monument and holds a gift shop with many interesting old west trinkets.
