This town bills itself as "Home of the Huge Pumpkin." The 12 ft. by 12 ft. landmark was built in 1990 for Roland's centennial, and also to honor the town's world record pumpkin-growing "Pumpkin King," Edgar VanWyck.

Home of the Huge Pumpkin and annual Pumpkin Festival, also Home of the 4H Club, where it originated -- 4H Museum. Edgar Van Wykes's record pumpkin was 570 pounds (I spoke to his son a few days ago). This was huge at that time. Records of over 1,000 lbs are now common, but not in his time.
