Daytona Beach, Florida: Old Daytona Beach Racetrack
Plaques mark the former sites of turn 1 and 2 of the old Daytona Beach race course, which until 1959 was half on a public street and half on a public beach.
- Address:
- 4513 S. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach, FL
- Directions:
- Despite its name this is actually nine miles south of Daytona Beach. From Dunlawton Blvd turn south at the stoplight onto Hwy A1A/S. Atlantic Ave. Drive 3.3 miles. You'll see tennis courts on the right; the north turn (no beach access) and its plaque is just south of the courts, on the left. Look for the checked flag crosswalk. The south turn beach access is another two miles south.

The Daytona Beach and Road Race course was a 3.2-mile-long track made up of one-half Hwy A1A pavement and one-half Atlantic ocean beach sand. It was the birthplace of NASCAR; races were held here from 1936 until 1958. (The new and current track was opened after that). You can still drive your car on the beach sand in turn 1 and 2 of the old track for a fee.
