The fish ladder in Damariscotta Mills has been in operation for over two hundred years. It was built in 1807 to allow alewives to bypass the mills between Damariscotta Lake and Salt Bay. It's a great spot for some pics and an amazing history of the alewives and their importance to the Maine lobster industry and the environment.
