Mustang, Oklahoma: Arrows to Atoms Tower
Erected in 1956 at the state fairgrounds. Moved to this rural spot in 1967 and cut down in size, which removed the Atoms part. Now it's just a weathered, upright arrow, maybe 40 feet high.

The Arrows to Atoms tower was put up at the state fairgrounds in 1956 to mark Oklahoma's 50th anniversary of statehood. It was taken down in 1967 and reinstalled in a shortened version on land owned by C. E. Nelson, whose company had originally raised the tower. Originally it was 190 feet high.

The "atoms" part of the arrow -- the familiar interwoven ellipses of electron paths -- was removed when the shaft was cut down to its present size.
