Wichita Falls, Texas: Artificial Wichita Falls
A 19th century flood washed away the original falls; this sturdier version, with several drops adding up to 54 feet, was created in 1989. It runs dry when there's not enough water in the Wichita River.

The Falls are still not running -- which is not surprising given how low the Wichita River is right now -- but it was interesting to see what it looked like dry and to climb the steps. When it's running, this is probably awesome!
[catluvingirl, 08/07/2024]Falls totally not functioning on April 10, 2024 when we visited. The smell mentioned in other reviews was still there. The noise from the Interstate was very loud.

It was about an eight-minute walk to the Falls from the nearest parking that we could find. A beautiful walk, although the smell from the nearby sewage treatment plant was less than pleasant. There are a couple of great photo spots.
[Moriah, 11/11/2023]The falls were closed when we tried to visit June 2017! It said they were closed for repair; however, it looked like it would be closed for a while.

This is a beautiful area nestled along a seemingly ugly road. It is more than mildly interesting! Very tranquil. You can walk around and feel like you are in some secluded woods.
