The Water Intake Facility is closed on Saturday afternoons.
[Ken, 04/12/2016]Along Jiboom Street (old Highway 24) on the waterfront is a boat-shaped concrete structure in the middle of the Sacramento River. It's actually a water intake facility, but it contains distinctive glass architecture (featuring a mobile within the rotunda!) and spectacular views of the city and river, including the historic Tower and I Street Bridges and the downtown skyline. The facility just opened and is a very distinctive landmark off Interstate 5, especially entering the city southbound from the Airport/Natomas/Arco Arena area. (Note: no fishing, swimming, or diving is allowed from the observation deck.)
