Giant Mailbox

My wife, stepdaughter, and I visited the giant mailbox this past weekend, and I must say it is huge. We saw this one on Roadsideamerica.com a while back, and decided to visit it and take some pics on my wife's birthday.

The Burnside family is very friendly. I had the opportunity to meet them while living in St. Joseph, LA. Here I have a picture with Jennifer Burnside in the Giant Mailbox.

Big Mail Box

Giant Mailbox

Just outside the town of Newellton, in northeast Louisiana, there is a giant mailbox at the entrance to a farm. It stands about 20 feet tall, and is on a giant post. I'm not sure who owns the place, or what the story behind it is, but it's a neat landmark nonetheless.

[Ernest C. Bowker, 03/19/2004]

June 2006: Frank Menge from Germany adds more detail- "purchased in Houston, Texas by Ben Burnside, Sr. in 1956. From the ground to the top of the box is almost fourteen feet. The box is about five feet tall, eight feet deep, and four feet wide. The post is about eighteen inches square." April 2006 - Photo Added. Frank from Germany notes the mailbox belongs to ""Ben Burnside, Franklin Plantation, Newellton, LA."
