This is an active open pit mine to primarily recover gold -- the richest gold mine in Colorado history -- so the colors of the mine layers are beautiful on a sunny day. The lookout offers a great view atop a real giant mining dump truck bed that has been converted into a staircase leading to an overlook deck. Also at the overlook is a sign with information about the processes used to mine for gold at this mine.
