Historical marker recounts how in 1953 Bladenboro was besieged by a cat-like "Vampire Monster" that drained the blood of livestock that it attacked. The monster was never caught.

A new marker denotes the time a mysterious beast (described as cat-like) showed up in 1953 and 1954 in the vicinity of Bladenboro, killing pets and livestock. Despite the action of hunters and authorities, the creature was never identified or captured.
