A streamlined iron vessel purported to be a submarine built in New Orleans during the Civil War is on display in the Capitol Park Museum in downtown Baton Rouge. According to the display signage, the ship was found in Lake Pontchartrain near the mouth of Bayou Saint John in New Orleans in 1878. It was displayed in various locations around New Orleans before being moved to here in 2006. The origin and identity of the vessel remain a mystery.
