Roadside Gorillas

In the late 1960s there were several roadside gorillas along Route 66 in Arizona-New Mexico-Texas. Curious if any still exist and their history and use. Photo from 1967, possibly near Tucumcari.

These apes were mass-produced by International Fiberglass in California, changing locations as businesses closed and others opened (No one ever threw away a good gorilla). A number still survive as roadside attractions, including one in Berwick, Pennsylvania, and another in Cross Plains, Tennessee.
