Billie Jean King was a student at Cal State LA when she won her first Wimbledon title in 1966. In 2024 a statue was dedicated in the center of campus capturing a King at her competitive and stylistic pinnacle: wire frame eyeglasses, flowing hair, star-spangled tennis dress, wooden racket ready to backhand a Communist Bloc opponent back behind the Iron Curtain.
