Built in 1869, the Chicago Water Tower is believed to be the only tower to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. It is an iconic symbol of Old Chicago and sits somewhat out of place on Michigan Avenue now, with a small art gallery inside. Oscar Wilde described the structure as "a castellated monstrosity with pepper boxes stuck all over it."
