2024 community art project "Turtle Walk" features over 20 uniquely painted turtles, supposedly because the Shawnee thought that Daniel Boone looked like a big turtle.

According to Morehead, Chief Blackfish of the Shawnee thought that Daniel Boone looked like a turtle, so he named Boone "Sheltowee," which means "big turtle."
