The Uncle Sam statue along US 23 stands next to Exit 1 (1 mile north of Sylvania, Ohio). This statue has been moved and repainted several times. It once stood near the Toledo Express Airport on Airport Highway and at one time was painted to look like Abe Lincoln, with a black suit and hat instead of the famous Red, White, and Blue of Uncle Sam. The statue now stands across the highway from a big fireworks store and is used to draw attention for the run up to the 4th of July. Fireworks are illegal in Ohio, hence the reason it sits near the border. Still standing in good condition.
[Jordan, 01/01/2006]I believe the Muffler Man that is mentioned in Toledo, Ohio, has moved from Airport Highway (a.k.a. Route 2) about 15 miles north, to a fireworks store on US 23 about 4-5 miles north of the the OHIO-MICHIGAN border.

This statue was REFUTED by Chris Murray, 9/25/97: "The alleged Muffler Man on US23 in MI, while being an interesting fiberglass structure, is definitely not a true Muffler Man. The face, hands, and body are not consistent with MM form and should not be confused with the genuine article. But it does have a nice wooden deck to climb up and allows one to lounge at his feet and red and white striped pants. "
