Elsie the Cow's Grave

Elsie the Cow's grave: Although the history remains true, the site doesn't. Alas, following the demise of the Farms in the 70s, construction has begun for housing. To my knowledge, the preservation of this site was not in the minds of the developers.

We visited it in January 1996. Since then, it's possible that the headstone has moved up the road a bit. From a newspaper account: "Although Mr. Jeffers said Wednesday he is uncertain exactly where the cow is buried, he said Elsie's grave is near the Jeffers' house on Jeffers Road, where the gravestone now stands."

Tombstone of Elsie the Cow

Address:: Heron Court, Plainsboro, NJ
Directions:: A few miles southeast of Princeton. Exit US Hwy 1 (north or south) at Scudder's Mill Rd, then turn right at the first light. This turns into Plainsboro Rd. After going over a small bridge, take the first right into the Walker-Gordon housing development. Take the first two rights (last one onto Heron Court) and park at the end of the dead end. The headstone is to the right next to the little gazebo, down by the pond.
