Houston, Texas: Giant President Heads
Artist David Adickes is known for his heroic scale sculptures of historic figures. His series of President heads became the core of two theme parks -- in South Dakota and Virgina. Both have since closed, but travelers can see an array of leaders' heads inside a fenced-in yard. Bonus: 2014 sculpture of a big Charlie Chaplain!

Gates were locked but the President Heads were worth a visit. Charlie Chaplin statue still there.

My son loved this -- you can go in some and pretend you have a tiny head and big body. They have bathrooms so if you need to pee and stop. It's worth it!

The heads weren't behind a fence when we saw them, as others had said they were. We could walk right up to them, pick their noses and whatnot. It was raining while we were there, and we could actually drive right alongside them so we didn't have to get out of our car (but we did anyways because everyone wanted to take their picture with their favorite president).
Even though the collection is a bit in disarray (out of chronological order and with some heads detached from their shoulders), we still thought it was the most impressive art we saw in Houston.

After our Texas road trip, this stop is the one we cannot stop talking about! It is seriously impressive and worth stopping at!

Very nice sculptures, but not displayed well. They were behind locked fences, but visible from outside. Worth the trip.
[Norma E, 01/30/2010]We like the hit-or-miss randomness of this unofficial attraction at the artist's studio, really just the staging yard for his sculptures. You'd have to pay admission elsewhere to see the heads nicely arranged on little patches of grass!
