Free-form blob made of 110 tons of artfully rusted steel. Perched on a hillside for dramatic snapshots. Its builder/owner worked on it from 1972 until he died in 2008. New owners turned into a rental property in 2023.

- Southeast of Lubbock. From Lubbock, take Hwy 40 east to Hwy 400, turn right, and drive south about four miles. Turn right onto Shepard Rd/CR-7000, then left onto Johnson Rd. Turn right onto Canyon View Drive to get to the House, or turn right onto Foothill Drive for a nice view up the hill at the House. Private property; visible from the street.

Across the street from Steel House is a curvy Mosaic House with a stone and mosaic exterior, reminiscent of Antonio Gaudi's work. Equally eye-catching!

Artist Robert Bruno sez it's okay for travelers to stop and take their own photos of his steel home's exterior. "Up until a few weeks ago, people just wandered in, but now I've moved some things in and occasionally spend the night. If I'm raiding the refrigerator I don't like turning around to find five people standing behind me. So, unless specifically invited, they need to stay on the outside of the front door."
