He was a hero wounded in the Battle of Saratoga, but a traitor later. So the only non-treasonous part of Benedict Arnold -- his leg -- is remembered fondly.

- Saratoga National Historic Park, 40 miles north of Albany, exit #12 off I-87. Turn right off the exit onto Route 67. After first light and before second light, move into left lane. At second light, turn left on Route 9 north. Follow park signs.

The monument was erected in 1887 at the spot where Benedict Arnold suffered a serious leg wound leading a successful attack on the British in 1777. Arnold later turned traitor, so the monument refuses to name him, and celebrates his only honorable body part. July 2015: Photo added.
