The Shoe Tree, where hundreds of discarded sneakers and other footwear had been tossed, was cut down by vandals on Dec. 30, 2010 -- but new shoes quickly sprouted from a "sister tree" nearby.

The new shoe tree is alive and well. We met two other families there and we all enjoyed taking pictures and throwing our shoes into the tree.
You can't appreciate the shoe tree until you see it in person. Even my 14-year-old was impressed, after initially rolling her eyes when I told her about it. Pro tip: use a sharpie to write your name and date on your shoes before you throw them.

Our MINI Cooper Rally drove by the Shoe Tree, on our way to Wendover. About four hundred MINIs stopped and took pictures, and added a few pairs to the trees. We all enjoyed it very much.
