Mr. Cost Plus Plummets, Head Stolen

This statue has fallen and head been stolen.

[Debra Jane Seltzer, 04/18/2009]

In early April Mr. Cost Plus/Mr. Service was felled by winds -- his cables snapped and he tumbled 30 feet to the pavement. Before the dust even settled around the mortally wounded super being, someone stole his head. The statue had been here since 1992, but will not be repaired -- the business owning it closed at the end of 2008.

Mr. Cost Plus

Mr. Cost Plus was originally in Carrollton, Ohio. Now Calhoun Ga. When in Ohio he was highly advertised on Ch 9 Steubenville and Ch. 7 Wheeling, W.Va. Many visitors from both states brought children up for autographs.

Mr. Cost Plus was once pierced with an arrow right in the chest. It was not made known, for fear of copycat followers. It never happened again. He was an icon for Huebner Chevrolet-Oldsmobile-Subaru in Carrollton. He's 21 feet tall, and when a new roof was installed he was shipped to Calhoun to begin his new purpose and Mr. Service took over, but now is under new ownership.

Mr. Cost Plus - Super Being

I spotted this big guy easily from I-75 near Calhoun, GA (Exit 312, to be exact). He soars over Service Chevrolet at the corner of GA 53 and Curtiss Parkway, and even though his chest crest says "Mr. Cost Plus," his cape reads "Mr. Service," suggesting that he just might be amenable to a few more NASCAR-type logos elsewhere if one were to ante up the dough. He's no Muffler Man, but he's pretty darned super anyway.

Note Mr. Cost Plus' pencil-thin mustache... just the thing for a stylin' superhero in 2004.
