Going west on US-50 my brother and I stop by this little town, and there is a huge sign that says: 1,561 mi. East NY / 1,561 mi. West San Francisco. There is also an old steam train so you can get in.

The sign marks the midpoint of US Hwy 50, which stretches from coast to coast. It used to stand two miles west of town, which is the actual midpoint, but it was moved into town because people kept stealing it.

Half-way-point of America

I saw it on my way to Dodge City from Kinsley. There's a giant sign that says Halfway and there's an arrow that points to both New York City and Los Angeles, which are the same distance from Kinsley. There's also a military tank at the American Legion building, next door.

We paused for a rest here on our Halfway Tour in 1999. Kinsley refers to itself as "Midway USA." Park is on the west edge of town. A large sign in the park indicates that San Francisco is 1,526 miles to the west and New York is 1,526 miles to the east.
