- Directions:
- Erwin High School. Northwest of the city. From Patton Ave. turn north onto Hazel Mill Rd, which becomes NC-1338. Follow for 3.5 miles. Turn right at the stop sign onto Old Country Home Rd. Drive a quarter-mile. Turn right at the stoplight onto Lees Creek Rd. Drive a quarter-mile. Turn left to drive to the school parking lot. You'll see Chief Willy up ahead, to the right, up next to the school. Entrances are gated.

The entrances are gated but if you have a good zoom lens, you will still be able to get a photo from outside the second gate (not the staffed one).

Drove by on a Sunday and luckily the school was closed. The statue is now painted completely gold.

Along with the Indian Muffler Men located in Cherokee, NC and the one at Harry's On the Hill car dealership on Patton Avenue in Asheville, NC; there is a THIRD Indian Muffler Man located at Erwin High School in Leicester (A suburb of Asheville). "Chief Willy" as he is called stands out in front of the school entrance.

Chief Willy is on the grounds of a high school. If you park outside the gate you you should be able to walk up to Willy and snap a photo. Probably best to do this when school's not in session.
