This guy is definitely gone. The gas station is closed and the pastry shop guy next door said the Muffler Man was sold to someone around 10/06.
[Debra Jane Seltzer, 04/04/2007]
This Muffler Man was up for sale on eBay.
[Gregg, 08/12/2006]We bought the fiberglass Muffler Man in July 2004, and painted him to match our station. His name is "Hank the Muffler Man." He has drawn a lot of attention and we are known for the "Big Man on the Roof." He is also famous as a landmark for giving directions.
We initially had him on the ground, but quickly moved him to the roof because my daughter heard kids talking in school of stealing him and/or turning him over. The stand he is on is probably too big, but the base was already there so we worked with what we had.
[Cumberland Gas and Auto, Bryan and Karen Wilson, 06/10/2006]The muffler man was moved from his temporary spot on the ground to the top of the service station's canopy. Unfortunately his mounting bracket is about five feet too high. If it were lower it would be a much better illusion of him standing on top of the canopy. We are happy to have him here in Somerset anyway.
[bill, 05/23/2005]
Smallish muffler man - complete with muffler. This would appear to be a different one than the one already listed for Somerset. This one has a muffler and is atop a sign, not resting on the ground.
[Ernie Engebretson, 02/02/2005]Unless a local fiberglass shop is grinding out clones, we'd bet this is the same guy -- same paint job on the boots, pants and shirt. He's probably safer off the ground.

According to the owner, Karen Wilson, the 18 ft. tall Bunyan holding a muffler has not been sold, and they are thinking about reposting him to eBay. Their minimum price is $5,500. The entry mentioned: "Embossed on his thigh is the International Fiberglass, Venice California label, which proves him to be one of the originals developed."
